| I just found an old notebook where I had started compiling a list of 101 goals to accomplish in 1001 days. That 1001 was done on March 2 of this year. Although I didn't end up with 101 goals, I thought I'd walk through them. Several of these I have accomplished. Others I haven't. And still others are completely stupid. hehe.
1. Get a driver's license. (Yes! After much trauma, chaos, and working it through with God, this awful, terrible, no-good, very bad goal can be crossed off this list!) 2. Finish reading the Bible. (I still haven't read it all the way through. Or at least not straight through. I'm sure I've read it all, just not in order. I started in earnest in September 2007, and now I'm in Nehemiah. Heh. I move slowly. God said a lot to me during Deuteronomy and 1 Samuel, so I had to keep stopping.) 3. Travel out of the country. (Not yet, not yet... SOME DAY! I have a passport now, so that's one less thing to worry about in the process.) 4. Meet Dani. (Wow, this list is ages old. Yes, I have met Dani, and it was marvelous, and I can't wait until I get to see her again some day!) 5. Finish compiling "calm" playlist. (I haven't the faintest idea whether I finished this or not. This is a very low-reaching goal. heh.)
6. Write a skit the drama team performs. (Now, come on, I DID write that terrible, terrible robot skit back in 10th grade... But more recently I also wrote the distraction one. It was less terrible but still could have used oodles more fine-tuning.)
7. Work with NLDC. (Haha... See, this was a goal of mine for AGES! And now I have accomplished it, and it was marvelous.
8. Share my faith with someone I know. (I hadn't done this at that point?!? Oh my. Well, I certainly have now. 9. See The Last 5 Years. (Not yet... *sniff*) 10. Meet ApologetiX. (Haha... back in the days when they were the only Christian band I listened to. Now I listen to a couple more but not them anymore.) 11. Get PJ to host an ApologetiX concert at the church. (Yeah, not really a priority anymore.) 12. Get something published. (Not quite yet! But I'm really rather proud of my last novel, so we shall see...) 13. Travel by boat. (Uh... Not yet. And it's not really on my list anymore.) 14. Watch every Disney cartoon available. (Not quite yet, although I've made more dents in the list. Note that I've said "available" so I don't have to be stuck never completing it because of Song of the South.) 15. Buy a laptop. (Well, technically I've still never bought one... but I own one, and apparently I thought this was good enough, because I had crossed it out in the notebook.) 16. Publish my randomized scripts on Lulu. (LOL! I think that was just so I could have my own not-on-the-computer copy of it. Some day I may have to do that. Although I will forbid others from buying them because they are nonsense.) 17. Get a celebrity's autograph. (Not quite yet.) 18. Be certified bilingual. (Still a goal, but hasn't happened yet.) 19. Revamp URLSCDs completely. (I *do* need to do that. But I haven't. I should. I should start now.) 20. Do a director's commentary for Family Ties... (Oh, goodness, that was ages ago. I always thought that would be fun but never actually did it.) 21. Have 20 or more subscribers to the Elmo blog. (I should actually update that. It appears I have... no subscriptions. LOL. Poor, poor Elmo. That's what his next poem should be about.)
22. Own all Norbert CDs. (Yup, I'm pretty sure I have everything he's done. Even Thou Shalt Not. Next up: Catch Me If You Can, whenever released!) 23. Type up lyrics for my showtunes. (That is a massive project that gets massiver every year.)
24. Begin walking. (Yes! I've done it! Years later, but I've done it! I'm still struggling with being faithful in this, but I'm going walking once or twice a week. Good for me. Gets me up and moving.) 25. Try all different kinds of cheese. (Well, er, I haven't tried them ALL yet.) 26. Work at Circa '21. (Hahaha... not even a goal anymore.) 27. Learn at least a little bit to play the piano. (Definitely want to do that some day still.)
28. Have another online birthday party. (Oh, yes. I have had several since then.)
29. Get a cell phone. (I've gone through a couple.)
30. Get cool showtunes ring tones for my cell phone. (LOL... Yup, done this as well!) 31. Learn to like coffee. (Yeah... tried this winter tour. Totally didn't happen. So now it's not a priority. Sorry, Carissa.)
32. Watch 200 more movies. (I have certainly done that in the past couple years. I watched 179 in 2007 alone.) 33. Fly somewhere with a friend. (Have I flown anywhere with someone? No. No, I have not.)
34. Go on a road trip with friends. (My life from 2007-2008 was one big long road trip with friends.) 35. Learn to do some kind of dance. (I can do the Resist the Devil dance and the Hello In There dance. Does that count? No.)
36. Sell stuff on eBay. (I haven't sold much, but I've sold a few things.) 37. Do a "Greatest Hits" exchange. (No, but I still like the idea.)
38. Get a new nickname. (I have no idea if I've gotten a new nickname since then. Oh, wait. Yes, I have.) 39. Try a weird ice cream flavor. (Not too weird yet.) 40. Collect and create URLSCDs completely. (...Did I not realize they would NEVER be completed? LOL... There are always more to be made!) 41. Work in a video store. (Alas, no.) 42. Work in a library. (Alas, no)
43. Ride in a glass elevator. (Yes! Or glassish.) 44. Ride in a taxi. (Not yet.)
And that was all. Goal 45 should've been to write more goals.

| This is partly just to give me an excuse to talk about music. A blogger I follow has been doing something sort of similar over on his site (although his music taste is vastly different than mine... we both enjoy Over the Rhine, but that's about it) and I was inspired to do something a bit similar.
The idea is that I go through and list 10 songs (he does it once a week... I'm impatient so will claim I'll do it one a day but also a slacker so it will probably end up being twice a week) from my music library. I'm going alphabetically by song name. Also, multiple versions of a single song count as one song. I'll try to link to YouTube examples when I can, and give a tiny bit of information about why I enjoy this song and have chosen to keep it around.
Feel free to recommend music to me based on the songs I list... or comment on how you love/hate/can't believe I like the songs.
Today's 10: 1. The ABC Cafe/Red and Black (Les Miserables, the 10th Anniversary Cast). Red and Black is a great song. Michael Maguire and Michael Ball sing it brilliantly here. The parallels between war and love are kind of interesting, although hardly deep lyrically... Mostly I'm just enjoyed the Michaels' voices. 2. Absalon, fili mi (The Hilliard Ensemble). I'm not huge on choral music, but I discovered this in a music appreciation class and found that it stuck with me. There's something very wistful and sad about this melody. It's written from the point of view of David to his son Absalom, so there's also a beautiful, sad story aspect to it. 3. Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive (Sam Harris). If this song was sung by anyone but Sam Harris, I wouldn't have kept it. But Sam Harris can sing anything and sound very, very, very lovely. 4. Across the Universe (Jim Sturgess). Perhaps The Beatles did it better. But The Beatles didn't have an awesome video accompanying their version that perfectly portrayed a young man trying in vain to cling on to the life he once knew and avoid life's downward spiral. Unfortunately, that video can't be found on YouTube. 5. Act Two Opening (Merrily We Roll Along, 1994 Off-Broadway Cast). An odd little medley of tunes, all centered around a difficult relationship. The song builds nicely and ends with a rather great, short version of "Good Thing Going." 6. An Actor's Life (Dave Grusin). Yeah, the song's a bit dated... But I still love it. The melody is interesting, and it's one of those songs that just always make me smile. This comes from Grusin's "Cinemagic" CD, which is a CD of movie music. This particular song was used in the movie Tootsie. 7. Addicted (Kelly Clarkson). Possibly my favorite song from this CD of hers. It's nothing new in the genre, but her voice manages to capture the feeling of the song, and there's a desperation in it that sometimes hits exactly the right chord for me. 8. Addicted (Simple Plan). Now this song is also about addiction to a person, but there's no real desperation in here. I'm a fan of happy pop-punk that sings cheerfully about awful things. Makes me feel better about anything I'm upset about it. 9. adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood (Future of the Left). There's pretty much no reason for me to like this song. I don't really know what those lyrics mean, but the song sounds angry so they might mean something angry. But the music is interesting and makes me pay attention when I usually wouldn't with this genre. The version I have has less screaming at the end than this one, and I like that better. Also note that this song is pretty much the least representative sample of my music library. 10. Adelaide's Lament (Guys and Dolls, 1992 Broadway Revival Cast). This is a classic, thoroughly entertaining showtune. Faith Prince's version is far more listenable than Vivian Blaine's. It's the saga of a woman who's been engaged for 14 years and is getting a little tired of not being married.
All right. Well, we'll see if I ever do any of these again. I have a bit of a tendency to start things like this and then totally forget them. Remember when I was going to update every day with what I was doing this time last year with NLDC? Yeah, and when I was going to make fun of all my old stories I wrote?
If nothing else, now you all know the first ten songs in my music library. WHEE!

| A headline I saw on my Yahoo page:
Obama chooses Locke to run Commerce Department
Well, that's going to be interesting. | | |
| Or something.
I am following FIVE different shows this television season. Yikes. So this week's...
The Big Bang Theory - One of my favorites, actually. Sheldon is so clearly the runaway star of the show, it's great when they give him a chance to do something completely outrageous like this. Great episode.
How I Met Your Mother - Eh. Not a great episode. Not a BAD one, just not a great one.
House- An interesting case medically, and some interesting things happening with characters. Way to kick off the new year.
American Idol - People to keep an eye out for when we get to Hollywood: -Adam Lambert. Theatrical is not a "no" in my book! He's got a lovely voice and if he doesn't go all crazy opera on us, could be phenomenal. -Kai Kalama. He has a whole lot of talent, and his story was big and famous, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did very well. -Joanna Pacitti. Her story's traversing the Internet, and she turns out to be quite talented. She'll quite possibly going to make it to the semifinals, and at that point we'll have to see if the negative press kills her off. -Brent Keith Smith. He is very, very good, with a great tone to his voice. I'm looking forward to hearing more from him. -Leneshe Young. She's certainly... a performer.
The Office - I love the episodes that show Michael with a bit of a conscience. And the "Hilary Swank: Hot or Not?" debate was great. Not a bad one.
Who else is watching these shows? (Any or all of them.)

| So my new favorite thing to do is take actual movie plot synopses and remove key elements such as characters and settings and plot points, and replace them with other characters, settings, and plot points from my giant lists of random ones.
Some of these sound absolutely phenomenal. Or phenomenally strange, anyway.
I'll tell you the original movie if I remember it.
Plot stealing is totally allowed if you think there is actually a story in here.
She's the sporty, jittery, paranoid Ann -- the disfigured cop heroine! (Original: Calamity Jane. This sounds like a completely bizarre character profile.)
A prehistoric epic that follows a retired top investigator's journey through Paris to secure the future of her husband. (Original: No idea. But I want to see a prehistoric epic starring a retired top investigor. And Paris.)
When a widowed dad with happiness is fired because of his condition, he hires a cheap muckraking fire eater as the only willing avocate for a wrongful dismissal suit. (Original: Philadelphia. I'm not sure whether they fired him for being happy or being widowed. And I'm definitely not sure a fire eater is going to helpful in this case.)
A bar entertainer whose unborn child becomes magnetized unintentionally breaks his ankle in August of 1940. In order to satisfy a schoolmate with religious guilt, he sets out to be instantly killed. (Original: Be Kind Rewind. This is like the most complex plot ever. Talk about multiple plotlines.)
A small native Venusian creature from the German-Swiss border comes to the big top to find his father. He winds up in prison, where he falls in love with a freshly deceased Nazi who has grown up sheltered in a taxi. Together they experience the sweeping changes of the arena in a female college. (Original: Across the Universe. This is a... culturally diverse movie, if nothing else. This plot synopsis made me giggle for several minutes. Someone please, please write this.)
In solitary confinement, a group of deities organize the largest armed rescue of fun-loving leaders in China. (Original: Some escape movie, apparently. About gods and fun-loving leaders.)
My Innocent Killer Frog 3D (This was just the replaced title for "My Bloody Valentine 3D." I would SO go see this movie.)
An origins story which reveals the cause of the centuries-old blood feud between the young women and the male models. Lucian, a short and frenzied male model, rallies his race in an uprising against the civilian empress of China. Joining Lucian is his secret lover, Sonja, a young woman who empathizes with the male models and looks to help free them from slavery. (Original: The new Underworld movie. The actual best part is that the title would be "Underworld: Rise of the Male Models.)
A Greek soldier rallies her friends -- both trusty and single-mom -- to rescue her father, an officer in the Italian army, who can learn of Custer's defeat by having a heart of gold, from the clutches of a criminal. (Original: Inkheart. It must be difficult for this female Greek soldier to probably fight against her father in the ITALIAN army. Even with his special power of... learning of Custer's defeat by having a heart of gold.)
